Regulations for the Establishment of Scholarships and Applications for Overseas Students
2017.02.16. Ratified by the Meeting of the Committee for Scholarships and Work-Study Awards, Second Semester, 2017 Academic Year
Article 1 These regulations are established to encourage overseas students to study at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU), as well as to offer incentives and financial assistance to help them stay in Taiwan, in an effort to further and promote the internalization of CJCU.
Article 2 Overseas students in these regulations are referred to either as foreign students or as overseas Chinese students (i.e. students from Hong Kong and Macau, NOT including students from China); their status as overseas students must meet the criteria established by the R. O. C. Ministry of Education, and must be confirmed by related admission officers.
Article 3 The requirements for scholarship eligibility (for both freshman and junior students) are as follows:
1. New Students: Students who qualify as overseas students and who have applied for admission to a program of study at CJCU.
2. Returning Students:
(1) Overseas Chinese students who have completed at least one academic year of study with sufficient credits to qualify as full-time students, ranked in the top 10% of the class, had conduct grade in each semester higher than 80, and had no record of disciplinary actions.
(2) Foreign students who have completed at least one academic year of study with sufficient credits to qualify as full-time students, ranked in the top 50% of the class, had conduct grade in each semester higher than 80, and had no record of disciplinary actions.
3. For those students who have been recipients of “Taiwan Scholarship” offered by the R. O. C. Ministry of Education, CJCU will provide extra bursaries to make up the balance.
Article 4 Scholarship terms are as follows:
1. Foreign students scholarship categories:
(1) Reimbursement of tuition and fees for the year of the scholarship.
(2) Reimbursement of tuition for the year of the scholarship.
2. Overseas Chinese students scholarship categories:
(1) New Students: TWD $ 35,000 (for the first-semester of enrollment only)
(2) Returning Students: TWD $ 25,000 (for each semester following the first- semester of enrollment)
3. For distinguished overseas students, who are of low-income household and enrolled in the University via the recommendation of high school principals in partnership with CJCU, scholarship A and scholarship B are awarded according to the students’ family financial situation:
(1) Scholarship A (one or two recipients per year): Reimbursement of tuition, fees, and accommodation costs.
(2) Scholarship B (one or two recipients per year): Reimbursement of accommodation costs.
(3) Distinguished students who are in the top 50% of the school. (The so-called “distinguished students” are defined by the candidates’ ranking in their schools. The condition for this award may be revised annually by the Office of Admissions according to varying scope and student numbers of each school.)
(4) Those students who are already recipients of the above two scholarships are not eligible for the application.
4. For distinguished overseas students, who enrolled in the University via the recommendation of specific high schools or institution in partnership with CJCU, scholarships (including reimbursement of tuition and fees) are awarded on the condition that those students are not recipients of the above three scholarships.
5. Time limitations for scholarships:
(1) For students in bachelor’s programs, 4 years
(2) For students in master’s programs, 2 years
(3) For students in Ph.D. programs, 3 years
6. Applications for scholarships should be made to the Office of Admissions:
(1) New Students: Scholarships are awarded following review by the Committee for Overseas Academic Scholarships organized by the Office of Admissions.
(2) Returning Students: Scholarships are awarded following review by the Committee for Overseas Academic Scholarships organized by the Office of Overseas Affairs.
