Scholarships & Grants by the Council of Indigenous Peoples
These regulations are established by the Council of Indigenous Peoples in order to encourage indigenous students attending colleges and universities working hard to learn and assist the economically disadvantaged. Students as referred to in these regulations must have indigenous identity and are currently enrolled in public or private colleges accreditted by the Ministry of Education (Excluding the ones extending their study period, studying in the first 3 years of the Five-Year Program or the graduate school).
a. Award amounts:
- Scholarships: NT$22,000 in each semester for students who attained the minumum score of 70 in the previous semester.
- Grants: NT$17,000 in each semester for students who attained the minimum score of 60 in the previous semester or registered as natives of Lanyu township, Taitung County, with an indigenous identity of Yami.
- Grants for medium-and-low income students: NT$17,000 in each semester for medium-and-low income students who attained the minimum score of 60 in the previous semester.
- Grants for low income students: NT$27,000 in each semester for low income students who attained the minimum score of 60 in the previous semester.
b. Among the scholarships & grants mentioned above, each student could receive only one. Government-sponsored students and students with all accommodation fees paid by the current school are not allowed to apply for the scholarships & grants.
c. Materials required:
- Application form (printed version from system)
- Transcipts from the previous semester (with class rank)
- Freshmen have to attach the transcripts from the first & second semester of the 3rd year of high school and signet.
d. Grant recipients are required to complete 48 service-learning hours for every semester.
Ways to reduce service-learning hours:
- Passing the advanced level in the Indigenous Language Proficiency Certification can get a full reduction;
- Passing the Indigenous Language Course in the first semester attending it, 18 hours can be reduced with 1 credit;
- Attending speeches and workshop conducted by school, a maximum of 20 hours can be reduced according to the hours of participation;
- Ranking in the top 30% of the class in the previous semester can get a 15-hour reduction.
