About
The 21st century is a time in which the humanities are being reshaped by information technology. It is also a period in which Taiwan must strengthen its local identity and, at the same time, press toward greater internationalization. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences was established to respond to the special needs of this complex era, to take hold of the opportunities created by Taiwan’s unique place in the world, and to contribute to national economic development by preparing graduates who possess not only professional language skills and basic training in the humanities, but also a deep appreciation for Taiwanese culture and sensitivity to the international community.
The College seeks to embody the University’s ideals of holistic education and sustainability as it pursues its educational goal of “training professionals in the humanities and social sciences who are developed in body, soul, and spirit.” The College seeks to cultivate the following characteristics in students:
- ability to integrate knowledge and to innovate
- ability to conduct independent research and apply problem-solving skills
- a foundation in ethical concepts and an appreciation for the humanities and the arts
- social concern and a desire to serve humanity
- global vision and a commitment to sustainable development
