An English Camp at the Datan Elementary School
The major theme of the camp was to improve confidence and ability of students to speak, read, write and understand English so that it can be part of their daily used language in the school environment.
Interacting with people of another race was a new experience to the students which at the beginning made students nervous but the situation stabilized as students begun to understand that there are other people with a different skin color.
The second day students greatly adapted and there was a strong relationship between us the students (in other words, they got used to us that we could freely greet and interact).
The games for instance writing a person’s description in the back created more interaction and confidence in the students.
As this camp went on, I realized that the school management was implementing goal 4 of the United Nations 17 goals for sustainable development which is about quality education.
Among us were also CJCU students whom I had never met before and we became friends during this camp.
After the activity, I felt like it was a welcome to Taiwan especially during the reflection meeting that we held immediately after the end of the camp.
In conclusion therefore, I request the school management to include this activity in Datan Elementary school annual calendar because students gain a lot in terms of improving their English abilities.
