How do I find student housing after I arrive at CJCU? |

Most students stay in on-campus dormitories or off-campus apartments. (1) We highly recommend foreign students to apply for the on-campus accommodation, which costs NT$13,135 per semester. (2) Off-campus apartments are usually furnished and many are available for rent within walking distance from the CJCU campus. The rents range from NT$5,000 to 9,000 per month (not including utilities). |

May I work in Taiwan? |

Foreign students who want to work in Taiwan must hold a valid work permit. A work permit can be applied after you are enrolled in the university. Based on the Employment Services Act, foreigners who work without a valid work permit will be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 (US$1,000~5,000), and may result in visa suspension. Students with a work permit may work a maximum of 20 hours per week with an hourly wage of NT$160 (US$5.7). |

Should I have a saving account in Taiwan? How do I open a saving account? |

(1) Yes, you must have a saving account in Taiwan, because payments of scholarships or insurance reimbursements are remitted to your account directly. (2) The Post Office is more convenient to open a savings account, because its minimum deposit for a new account is only NT$100. Once enrolled in CJCU, you may bring your passport, stamp, student ID card, and Alien Resident Certificate to open a saving account at any Post Office branch. |

What is "Service Assistantship"? Can I apply? |

This assistantship is intended to help students with their living expenses, under the condition that their average grades pass the minimum requirement (60 points). Recipients are also required to perform part-time duties, about 10 hours per week. Students from countries on the United Nation's list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are eligible to apply. Other students not from the LDCs can also apply with a low-income household statement issued by the government of origin country, proof of disability (National Disabled Identification Card), or other proof of financial hardship. |

What is the cost of living in Taiwan? |

It depends on the city. CJCU is located in Tainan, where the cost of living is relatively lower; NT$6000 (about US$200) is enough to cover the monthly cost of food. |

Do I need health insurance in Taiwan? |

All newly-arrived foreign students are required to join the group medical insurance at a cost of NT$500 per month. Once you have been in Taiwan for more than six months, you have to join the National Health Insurance policy. The cost is NT$826 per month. |
