CJCU’s Chen Po-jen, the Five-time Gold Medalist in National University and College Athletic Games Male Weightlifting and National Record Setter
In the last day’s event of weightlifting of the National University and College Athletic Games 2023, Chen Po-jen, a student of the Department of Athletic Sport of Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) claimed a 102Kg male weightlifting championship by posting a 170-kilogram snatch and a 180-kilogram clean and jerk with a total round of 355 kilograms. Chen was a three-time repeated champion in the Games and his snatch set Taiwan’s national record in 169 kilograms. After his successful achievement in the Games, he was preparing for the Asian Championship on May 3.
At the age of 24, Chen, the national record setter, at the same time, was the five-time gold medalist in in National University and College Athletic Games Male Weightlifting. In Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Chen finished fifth place in the men's 96 kg event and due to the adoption of new weight categories in Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, he focused on competitions of the 102-kg Class.
Chen was from the first generation team of Tongyuan Junior High School in Tainan and as a true lover of weightlifting, he insisted on his way. The secret of his success lies in setting high expectations for himself. He always practices to maintain in the best conditions.
