Chinese Language Teaching: Move It Up!
The CJCU Chinese Language and Culture Center held the "Chinese Language Counseling and Cultural Exchange Workshop" on September 23. Special guest speaker Ms. Shi Anxin (施安辛老師) shared. Ms. Shi has rich experience in Chinese language teaching and cross-cultural communication. In the workshop, it is an indispensable element for cross-cultural communication to lead students to appreciate their own native language cognition and cultural understanding.
CJCU is committed to becoming a friendly bilingual campus. Students are not only open-minded but inclusive of diverse cultures and different nationalities. To this end, teachers and students not only need to be fluent in foreign languages but also need to be proficient in Chinese and culture to understand their own language.
In addition to basic Chinese teaching concepts such as "Hanyu Pinyin", "Chinese Character Recognition and Reading", and "Mandarin Tutoring Skills", the workshop also extends the contents of "Transnational Communication Skills", "Cultural Respect and Understanding" and "Cultural Taboos" to enhance the students' sensitivity to other cultures.
Through various group tasks "Phonetic, Chinese Pinyin Matching" and "Speaking like this, okay?", the lecturer allows students to experience the difficulties and problems that foreign students may encounter when learning Chinese, and the difficulties and problems that foreign students may encounter when interacting with foreign students. Misunderstandings and conflicts are caused by inappropriate words and unintentional actions. In the activity, in addition to hands-on operations, students are guided to think independently and cultivate cross-cultural communication skills.
Participants said that international exchanges are far more difficult than imagined. However, through this practical and rich activity, the fear of international exchanges has not only been eliminated, but the cross-cultural understanding has also been deepened, and the confidence in future exchanges has been enhanced.
