Introduction of Department of Calligraphy and Painting Art
- Brief History
Chang Jung Christian University is a school founded by the Presbyterian Church. The department was first established in August, 2010 as a degree program in calligraphy and painting art. In August of 2013, it has been renamed the Department of Calligraphy and Painting Art.
- Mission Statement
The department aims to raise the standards of artistic creation in calligraphy and painting, as well as the marketing of the art industry. The department focuses on the research of related theory, artistic appreciation, and criticism to create diversity, localization, and globalization in art.
- Educational Goals
- Cultivating talents in artistic creation and marketing of art industry
- Emphasizing the exploration and amalgamation of artistic theory and creation
- Pursuit of freshness and elegance in traditional calligraphy and painting
- Raising the education of traditional cultures and perpetuating the care for society
- Characteristics
- Academic creation: Using academic creation as a foundation, the department emphasizes the basic skills of traditional ink and brush, while encouraging innovation and creating characteristics of the era in order to cultivate the elites in Taiwan’s water ink creations.
- Market orientation: While focusing on skills and techniques, the department aims to raise the standards of calligraphy and painting to meet the needs of the market. Together with courses in marketing, students will learn to improve the quality of works and collaborate with galleries to promote the calligraphy and painting market.
- Dual track approach: The department is the only one in the nation to adopt a dual track didactic model, focusing on both academia and markets. With “freshness” and “elegance” as principle, the department pushes for cooperation with businesses for artistic creation to enter the markets directly, thus directly creating career opportunities.
- Professional Development
After completing the undergraduate program, the student may choose to enter the following career paths:
- Art teachers in various levels of schools;
- Administrative, managerial, or research staff in art or cultural institutions;
- Marketing of calligraphy and painting creation or industries;
- Public servant in art or education related organization;
- Further studies in art related graduate programs;
- Careers in visual designs and artistic direction.
