Speech of International Scholar Professor Boyd Davis
The CSIE department in CJCU invited Professor Boyd Davis, an internationally renowned scholar, to give a lecture. The topic of the lecture was “Aging, dementia and healthcare: why technology is more important than ever?”. Professor Davis graduated from the well-known University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Ph.D. Her academic expertise includes narrative in discourse, pragmatics and standpoints, social-historical methods incorporated into medical discourse, Alzheimer’s disease, life span language, online discourse, and digital voice corpus, etc. She was originally a professor in the Applied Linguistics/English Department of UNC Charlotte Research University. Later, her research diversified, spanning gerontology and communication, and also served as an adjunct research professor in the Department of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina. The audiences of this lecture are students from the Department Management of Information System and Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering who are taking the "Smart Health Care" course. Prof. Davis gave a brief introduction on the differences in health care between Taiwan and the other countries in the world, and then use the IoT, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, nursing robots and other current technologies in elderly care may be applied to give audiences a wonderful speech, the content is lively and enlightening. Due to the serious epidemic and Professor Davis's advanced age, the online speech manner was used; however, the students' gains are not reduced. Through international and global perspectives, students fully understand that smart medical care is currently the trend of the world. As the pioneers of future information, in the future, they can use the relevant knowledge and technology learned in the university to develop smart medical systems and invest in this future star industry.
