Historical background
- August 2002, The Department of Applied Japanese Studies was established. The first dean was Professor Hsieh Yih-Lang; the daytime department was recruited and the Bachelor of Advanced Education was completed.
- August 2003, The Japanese graduate school was established. The first director, Professor Hsieh Yih-Lang, successfully recruited 14 students.
- August 2005, Professor Hsieh Yih-Lang was reappointed as Director and Dean for the second time.
- 2007 academic year, Application to the Ministry of Education for the 2009 academic year and onwards to merge to become the "Department of Applied Japanese Studies".
- August 2008, Professor Hsieh Yih-Lang was appointed to extend his post as head of the department and director for 1 year.
- August 2009, The Department of Applied Japanese Studies and the Japanese Graduate Institute officially merged.
- August 2009, Associate Professor Shen Wen-Liang assumed the position of Department Dean.
- August 2010, Professor Yoneyama Yoshikazu assumed the position of Department Dean.
- August 2013, Associate Professor Su Yu-Ning assumed the position of Department Dean.
- August 2019, Associate Professor Wu Hsing-Feng assumed the position of Department Dean.
