School of Theology
About the School of Theology and Department of Theology
The School of Theology was founded by Chang Jung Christian University in 2008, the first and only theological school in a university accredited by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. The vision of the school is to provide an academic environment in which the freedom of research in Christian faith and religious matters is fully secured. The School of Theology CJCU is one of the higher education institutions affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. Though denominationally affiliated, the school has recruited students from other major Christian denominations, local independent churches, or even other religious traditions. Due to the variety of religious backgrounds, a pluralistic and ecumenical learning setting at the school is fully warranted for the freedom of research.
The school provides accredited degree programs for undergraduate and graduate studies, namely, Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Master of Theology. Currently, the graduates of the school serve at churches or non-profit organizations, and some pursue further study of Christian theology in a higher degree program.
The school of theology is a Christian seminary structured in a university system. The theological students of CJCU are able to experience a general college student living in a university setting on the one hand and the ultimate freedom of thinking and research, the public exploration of knowledge and understanding, and the open exchange of information and data, which critically characterize the spirit of liberal arts education. In addition to the School of Theology, there is the College of Management, College of Health Sciences, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and School of Information and Design in CJCU. Hence, the theological students are able to take courses at these schools as their minor studies or double-major studies based on their research interests. Such an interdisciplinary study program is unique in the theological education in Taiwan. Other independent or denominationally affiliated seminaries in Taiwan are not able to provide such a learning opportunity to their students. At a time of interdisciplinary study as the focus of contemporary research and education, the School of Theology CJCU provides an up-to-date learning environment that is more pluralistic and inclusive than any other theological school in Taiwan.
The school, based on the historical tradition of the Christian Church received and the spirit of theological research in the cultural context of Taiwan aims at nurturing gifted persons who love and fear God, devote themselves to Jesus Christ, care for people, treasure the land, and serve the community. We sincerely welcome all the people who are interested in theological research, church ministry, and community service to join us to create a theological world filled with faith, hope, and love!
