Who won CJCU’s Got Talent?

CJCU’s Got Talent: Chinese Singing Contest Results Announced! The first place was won by the master class student Nguyen Ha Nhat Chi (Jane)! Jane singing “Flourishing Flowers” won praise from the judges; the second place was The Noble Faith, consisting of multi-national students who sings “Dui Bu Qi”, and was favored by the judges; the third place was Huáng yìxióng, an Indonesian student who studies in Translation and Interpretation Studies, who sings “Beijing Opera” (mu guiying takes command).
To enhance the foreign students' interest in learning Chinese, the Chinese Language & Culture Center organizes the Chinese Song Contest. They are hoping to enhance the students’ ability by practicing for the contest. By practicing Chinese-language songs for the contest, students will enhance their abilities on Chinese vocabulary, interpret Chinese-language texts and understand Taiwanese culture.
The competition was held on the evening of January 3, 2018 in the school's lecture Room T20119. The host of the event was Huángzhìyǒng, a Hong Kong student studies in aviation management. The moderator was hosted by Chinese, English and Cantonese languages, which fully demonstrated the multi-lingual and multi-cultural of the venue. The competition was intense. A total of 16 groups participated in the competition. The judges were composed of four teachers, Qiū jìngyǎ, Zhào yìtóng, Huáng yǒngzhōng, and Chén cǎitǐ. They each scored in the Chinese pronunciation, presentation, and vocal skills of the contestants, and the highest scoring person win the competition.
Jane, who won the first place, came from Vietnam and was a student of the school's master class. She selected the “Flourishing Flowers” song. For foreign students, the lyrics are difficult, she got the highest score in the Chinese pronunciation, plus the performance of the tone is dazzling, so she won the first place in the game!
The Noble Faith of the second place consists of five students who are enrolled in the School's International Program for Sustainable Development (IPSD). They sang the song "Dui Bu Qi" from the band Transition. In addition to the guitar and drum accompaniment, they sang the Chinese dialogue. They played in quick rhythm even some classmates couldn’t help but danced on stage!
The third place student Huáng yìxióng, who studies in Translation and Interpretation Studies, brought a surprise to the audience. Before singing, he introduced himself in particular voice. Then he sang the song “mu guiying takes command”, which is a rare song in the Chinese song contest. He especially showed his tone difference between speaking and singing, which made the audience astounding!
Director of the Chinese Language & Culture Center, Ms. Chiu said that the singing contest is not about competition, but that she hopes the students enjoy the process of learning Mandarin and have fun. The four judges admired the performance of the students. The self-introduction of the students in the Chinese language in the performances made teacher Chén cǎitǐ look admire. When she commented, she could not help but ask: “Are you my students?” The combination of learning Chinese and singing allowed students to show a different initiative than in the classroom.
Students who join the contest said that, in order to sing Chinese songs, they spent a lot of time practicing vocabulary and found that they learned a lot of new vocabulary. Although they were nervous and some of them sang wrong, they still complete the song. After hearing the applause of the audience, they felt satisfied!
