Features and Career
What is Translation and Interpretation?
In 1996 the University established the nation’s first translation and interpretation department with a four-year undergraduate program. In 2001 an additional graduate institute was founded to offer a master’s program both taught as a daytime degree and an evening degree. By training our students in English, Chinese, second languages and professional knowledge in economy, trade, journalism, science, and technology, we cultivate diversified translators who will be able to put their knowledge into full use immediately after graduation.

Development and progression
To ensure that our students possess multilanguage skills with an international perspective, the department actively participates and conduct academic teaching exchange with international universities. Language is the tool for communication and being able to comprehend foreign languages is the first step to enter the international market and cultivate international competitiveness. Students in the translation department who developed expertise both in English and in a second foreign language (Japanese, French, German and Spanish) have participated in various International activities with outstanding performances, these activities includes: International exchange students (MOE's overseas study program), Summer abroad Internship (MOE’s Internship Program), American summer jobs (CIEE), Short-term overseas exchanges (MOE’s Youth Elite International Organization and Social Enterprise Study Group, CJCU’s German Visit Group, CJCU’s Indonesian Education Experience.) and CJCU’s International Cultural Experience Camp. Through the integration of learning and application, translation students not only learn languages, experience multinational cultures, and expand their international perspective, but also lay a strong foundation for entering the international community and becoming a global citizen.
