HISTORY

In 1996 the University established the nation's first translation and interpretation department with a four-year undergraduate program. In 2001 an additional graduate institute was founded to offer a master's program both taught as a daytime degree and an evening degree. By training our students in English, Chinese, second languages and professional knowledge in economy, trade, journalism, science, and technology, we cultivate diversified translators who will be able to put their knowledge into full use immediately after graduation.

ACADEMIC OBJECTIVES

The department's main drive and objective is to provide students with professional translation and language teaching. The undergraduate program focuses on developing new young talents to enter the field of translation, while the graduate program specializes in training advanced translators. In order to achieve our goal, apart from focusing on language training and translation skills training, we also emphasize on strengthening our students' professional knowledge in various fields (such as journalism, economy, trade, science, technology, law, politics, and literature, etc.) with the academic philosophy of integrating theory with practice.

Develops students' qualities such as humanities and professionalism.
Actively cultivates translators to have an international perspective with the ability to creative thinking. The department continuously engages in cross-domain cooperation with various industries to provide students with internship opportunities, whether related to the practice of translation skills, or applying professional knowledge in fields such as trade, technology, and journalism, the department actively assists students in achieving a seamless integration into the job market.
Students will be able to obtain a foreign language tour-guide license through our sightseeing courses and have the opportunities to work in the airport immigration bureau, tourism bureau, museums, as well as domestic and foreign hotels, etc.

DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESSION

To ensure that our students possess multilanguage skills with an international perspective, the department actively participates and conduct academic teaching exchange with international universities. Language is the tool for communication and being able to comprehend foreign languages is the first step to enter the international market and cultivate international competitiveness.
Students in the translation department who developed expertise both in English and in a second foreign language (Japanese, French, German and Spanish) have participated in various International activities with outstanding performances, these activities includes: International exchange students (MOE's overseas study program), Summer abroad Internship (MOE's Internship Program), American summer jobs (CIEE), Short-term overseas exchanges (MOE's Youth Elite International Organization and Social Enterprise Study Group, CJCU's German Visit Group, CJCU's Indonesian Education Experience.) and CJCU's International Cultural Experience Camp.
Through the integration of learning and application, translation students not only learn languages, experience multinational cultures, and expand their international perspective, but also lay a strong foundation for entering the international community and becoming a global citizen.
