Master program (Day-time program)

The department’s master program is not divided into groups. Students are required to take courses related to written translation and oral interpretation. Students must complete 38 credits (including 4 credits of thesis) before graduation.

1. Compulsory courses: Written translation, Visual translation, Consecutive Interpretation, Computer-aided translation programs, and Simultaneous Interpretation.
2. Elective courses: Chinese and literature, business, journalism, law and politics, information and technology, mechanical translation, language elective courses, and other related courses.
3. Overseas Language Internship

• Requirements for language internship:

1. Students need to spend at least two months in an English speaking country and undertake at least one formal class (The course should be related to language with a duration of at least 7 weeks
2. Students may also choose to go overseas for an internship. If you participate in an international organization volunteer program, you need to provide proof of using English for at least 36 hours. The program or overseas internship must first be approved by the “Graduation topic and internship committee”. a certificate of completion must also be submitted for review before the internship will be recognized.

• The following are alternative to the above rules:

1. Obtain a bidirectional translation certificate from the  Ministry of Education’s written test “translation ability examination” (English to Chinese, Chinese to English).
2. Attend a course fully taught in English that is recognized by the department（amounting to at least 72 hours in total) The course selection needs to be approved by the “Graduation topic and internship committee”, a certificate of completion must also be submitted for review before the course will be recognized.

4. English language proficiency certificate.

5. Before the graduate student is allowed to do his oral thesis defense, the student must first publish a thesis related to translation or language.

• The publication of a thesis may be done individually or jointly in a group limited to four graduate students, or done together with a faculty member. The term "publication" referred to above includes publication in journals with review mechanisms, seminar papers, and journal papers.​​​​
• Graduate students who have not been able to publish monographs must publish their thesis research plan (proposal) and thesis progress (including literature discussion and research methods) at least once before the thesis oral examination.
• The department holds paper presentations twice each semester, in the middle of the semester and at the end of the semester, participants are all teachers and graduate students in the department. Participants may ask questions, suggestions or discuss the graduate student's report. For both monographs and thesis publications, 15 minutes is the rule.

5. Master's thesis

Master program (Evening program)

In 2005 the program started to enroll students for its evening program, also known as an in-service program. Since the academic year of 2012 students has been divided into two groups, written translation (24 study credits) and oral interpretation (26 study credits), in addition, 4 thesis credits need to be earned before graduation, upon examination the student is awarded a Master’s degree. The program curriculum includes:

1. Compulsory courses: Written translation, Sight translation, Consecutive translation, Academic thesis writing methods, translation theories, and professional seminars.
2. Elective courses: Relevant courses in the fields of language and literature, business and economics, journalism and law, information and technology, mechanical translation, language.
3. English language proficiency certificate
