Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong,
but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
1Thessalonians 5:15
Paul encourages the believers in the Thessalonian church to show respect for those who lead and admonish them in the Lord. He explains that among the believers, they should encourage and comfort those who are weak or disheartened. He also admonishes lazy individuals and emphasizes the importance of loving one another within the community of believers. He specifically instructs them not to repay evil with evil, whether to individuals or to the community, but instead to respond to wrongdoing with love and kindness.
Paul presents an alternative approach to ethical behavior that contrasts with the norms of the secular world. He uses this approach to remind the brothers and sisters in the church to accept each other's weaknesses, actively maintain harmonious relationships, and find joy, prayerfulness, and thanksgiving in the Lord.
