Chang Jung University Founder Dr. Su Jin-an Memorial Service: Tainan Holiness Church Pastors' Choir Presents Hymns in Remembrance.
[Office of the Chaplain]
On September 15th at 10:30 AM, Chang Jung University held a memorial service in Chang Jung Hall to commemorate our university's founder, Dr. Su Jin-an. The service aimed to remember his exemplary character and his significant contributions to the university.
The worship service, organized by the family of Mr. Su Jin-an, including his daughter Su Hui-ling, granddaughter Xiao Qing-yi, and grandson Xiao Qing-jie, began with a piano and violin trio performance titled "Closer to the Lord." Throughout the service, they interwove Mr. Su's favorite hymns, passages from the Bible, and prayers in a sequential manner. This allowed friends, guests, and students in attendance to reflect on the profound influence and guidance that Mr. Su Jin-an's Christian faith had on his life.
The pastors' choir from Tainan Christian Church and High-Speed Rail Christian Church performed a special rendition of the hymn "Sweeter as the Days Go By," paying tribute to Mr. Su. Rev. Gao Min-zhi, the senior pastor of the Christian Church, also shared his impressions of Mr. Su Jin-an, describing him as a person who displayed unwavering and steadfast support for his family and the church through his calm and composed actions. It is believed that Mr. Su Jin-an experienced the grace of the Lord throughout his life, making his closeness to the Lord even sweeter now.
Chairman Huang Ren-cun reminisced about his dear friend, with whom he had collaborated for an incredible 50 years, spanning YMCA, New Lou Hospital, Chang Jung High School, and Chang Jung University. Chairman Huang reflected on Mr. Su Jin-an's resolute personality, his methodical approach to decision-making, and his ability to remain calm and composed. During the early days of establishing Chang Jung University, despite the modest campus size and limited number of students and staff, Mr. Su had already planned for a 40-meter avenue at the university's entrance. The image of a cross at the entrance conveyed the clear message that Chang Jung University was a Christian institution. The six-ton bronze relief sculpture of "Jesus, the Good Shepherd" embodied the spirit of Christ's unwavering love for all His people. All these plans affirmed the truth of Jesus Christ's statement, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life." Mr. Su Jin-an's visionary planning helped Chang Jung University grow from its humble beginnings to its present state of prosperity, making his legacy a guiding light for us to follow.
President Li Yong-long shared during the memorial service that he deeply felt the subtle yet powerful influence of Mr. Su Jin-an. Although he had limited time working closely with Mr. Su, he often heard from current Chairman Huang and former Chairman Yang about Mr. Su's exemplary character in dealing with people and his dedicated approach to education. The careful design of the campus, from the 40-meter avenue to various other aspects, revealed Mr. Su's meticulous planning. The development of Chang Jung University, from its inception 38 years ago to its current scale, is a testament to faith in God's power, which enabled the two founders to boldly overcome challenges. Their spiritual beliefs and the grand vision they held for the university serve as a model for how to continue the mission of education in the face of difficulties. The core educational spirit of Chang Jung University is to pass on the belief that, like Jesus Christ, we should never give up on any sheep.
During the service, both the Chairman and President presented a commemorative book to Mr. Su Jin-an's family, expressing their gratitude and profound respect for his contributions. His life was akin to what the Apostle Paul described in the Bible: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
