2023 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony: Chang Jung Christian University's 30th Anniversary: Gratitude for the Past, Illuminating the Future
[Report of The Office of Chaplain]
The office of the chaplains traditionally lights up the campus Christmas tree lights on Thanksgiving Day every year. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held on November 23 at CJCU Hall, marking the beginning of the Christmas season and the anticipation of the birth of Jesus. This year's lighting ceremony invited students from the Mosa Nasa English Education Center and Ta-tan Elementary School to perform songs and violin solos. The university student fellowship also sang, with about 120 people gathering in CJCU Hall to light the Christmas tree and celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season. This year, CJCU is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which has a special meaning of gratitude for the past and a bright future.
CJCU Hall was especially festive with the Christmas decorations. In response to the school's concept of net-zero sustainability, the chaplaincy placed a simple group of wooden reindeer and adorned them with lights, changing the ecological impact of hanging trees in the past. The event venue was also moved indoors to improve the control of lighting and sound.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony began with a reading of scripture and prayer. During the ceremony, Chairman Dr. Jen-Chun Hwang shared that the birth of Jesus brought light to the world and guided people's lives. He encouraged people to follow Jesus' spirit in being a light and salt in their lives. President Lee Yung-Lung also mentioned that the success of CJCU today is due to the foresight of Chairman Huang Ren-Cun and others 30 years ago. Thankful for God's blessings, CJCU will continue to strive for internationalization and in the future have the ability to teach in English, attracting more international students to enroll.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony featured a special performance by the American English Education Center's "Children's Choir". The children's cute voices drew enthusiastic applause from the audience. The Ta-tan Elementary School's "Violin Ensemble" played warm and soft music that was pleasant to the ears and touched the heart. The "Worship and Praise Team" of the university student fellowship, composed of African students, expressed their love and gratitude for Jesus through the singing of modern hymns. In addition, the invited guests from the community included Jai Yu-Tsai, section chief of Guiren District Office; Zhang Shi-Cheng, chairman of the Da-wu-lun Green Energy Development Association; Lin Ming-hsin, chairman of the Ta-tan Community Development Association; Huang Hsin-en, principal of Ta-tan Elementary School; and Huang Li-fang, director of the American English Education Center. Everyone joined together to participate in the Christmas lighting ceremony, strengthening the connection between the university and the community. Finally, everyone took a group photo to leave a beautiful memory of the 2023 Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
