2024 Summer Tribal Children Camp - Light and Salt Castle - Lead children to achieve good character
[Reported by Office of the Chaplain]
Every summer break, the Office of the Chaplain leads Student Fellowship and other student volunteers to remote tribes to run summer children’s camps. This year, Ms. Hsueh-Chen Tu, chaplain, led 15 volunteers to go to Xinyi Township Kalibuan Church, Nantou from July 15 to July 21 and organized the "2024 Summer Tribal Children's Camp". This year's theme was "Light and Salt Castle". A total of 48 children from the tribe and neighboring tribes came to participate.
The implication of the theme "Light and Salt Castle" is that we hope that children can behave like light and salt. As the Bible says, be like light shining before people so that others can see our good deeds. We hope that children can be like salt, which has a mediating effect and becomes a peacemaker. This year, there are four workshops, one of them which teach children in English and scientific experiments respectively. The activities include knowledge experience about light. One of them is about Life Education. Through castle games and biblical words, children can find out the character traits of being a salt and light; In addition, there is also a handicraft experience for children to complete with salt. Because this year’s volunteers include several students from the Department of Social Work, they used the relevant knowledge learned in the Department of Social Work to design actions that would allow children to experience love as light as salt. The "SDGs Environmental Defense War" game activity was also introduced to make children pay attention to the phenomenon of global warming again and strengthen environmental protection knowledge.
On the last day of the camp, a results presentation was held, and parents of the children were invited to watch. Through static and dynamic exhibitions, parents were able to see the results that their children had learned during the camp. The Office of the Chaplain also brought some school promotional materials to the children and gave a brief introduction to CJCU. Several older children said they would come to study CJCU in the future. We can see the volunteers working at the camp these days and bring the impact of the camp on the lives of these children.
Before the camp ended, the children used hugs to express their gratitude to these big brothers and sisters for their guidance and companionship these days. On Friday night, volunteers participated in the family worship of each group in the church in pairs. The volunteers understood Kalibuan Church’s pursuit of faith and interacted enthusiastically. On Saturday, volunteers also conducted tribal tours. Some older children from the tribe led the volunteers to climb the tribe’s famous ancient hunter trail. We could also see the local tribe’s lifestyle and agricultural products. In the evening, we also interacted and communicated with the youth association of the church. The entire team participated in the church's Sunday worship service and sang songs on Sunday. The entire team was recognized by the church's pastors, deacons and members. They look forward to CJCU continuing to host children's camps next year.
