[Reported by Chaplain Office]
The Office of the Chaplain holds a Christmas Tree Lighting Service every year on Thanksgiving Day to welcome the Christmas season coming. This year's Christmas Tree Lghting event was held on November 28th, and it was more innovative, combining the Japanese cultural festival and the Admissions Office's "One Encounter, One Chance" promotional bus, making it very lively. On the same day, Yongren High School also visited and participated in the Christmas Tree Lighting Service and series of activities. The event attracted more than 150 people to join in the fun. Director Rev. Liren Liu delivered a speech. Founding Director Jen-Chun Hwang and many several guests, including Legislator Tingfei Chen, Guiren District Mayor Yahong Zhu, Datan Village Mayor Juncheng Lin and other politicians, jointly lit up the Christmas tree and all Christmas decorations in the countdown.
Ten new themed Christmas trees were added this year. The Office of the Chaplain and the Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots Eco-Education Center jointly organized the "Net Zero Sustainable Christmas Tree Handmade Workshop" by Professor Chien-Bang Chen of the Department of Fine Arts, Professor Hsien-Chang Wang of the Department of Interactive Design and Tainan University Technology lecturer Ms. Chen Mengheng led the faculty and students to create together. Special thanks to Prof. Jau-Ling Huang for leading students in the handcraft workshop and painting stones in combination with the SDGs theme; and thank the USR Green Da-Wu-Lun Community Promotion Office for its strong support.
This year's flea market was held in the form of a "market week". Thanks to all the teachers, staff, students and members of the Datong Church for donating second-hand items. The proceeds from the charity sale totaled NT$22,085. A donation ceremony was held on the day of the event. The funds will be used to support higher education Sprout Project--Making Resources More Public.
This year's Christmas Tree Lighting Service theme is "The True Light Shines, CJCU Sustainable". The Bible points out that Jesus Christ is the true light, bringing hope to the world and inspiring everyone to become messengers of light, reflect the mission given by God, change the world in dark times, and become a blessing to others. The event was filled with music and joy: Dr. Chin-Ming Lin led the wind band to perform melodious music with trumpets and clarinets; the English fellowship worship and praise team warmed up the audience with Christmas songs; the teachers and students choir sang "Lord, We Thank You" Respond to the festive atmosphere of Thanksgiving.
At the end, all sang "Joy to the World" and "Silent Night" and the accompaniment of the violin club, the lights in the venue were lit up in a countdown, and the lights of the Christmas tree and Sunset Boulevard complemented each other. Teachers, students and guests took a group photo to leave precious memories for the 2024 Christmas Tree Light Service. May the true light of the Lord Jesus Christ continue to shine on CJCU and promote sustainable development.
