Live in Taiwan
Q1: | How do I find student housing after I arrive at CJCU? |
A1: | Most students stay in on-campus dormitories or off-campus apartments.
(1) We highly recommend foreign students apply for on-campus accommodation, which costs NT$13,000~15,000 (about USD434~500) per semester.
(2) Students who receive the Jane Goodall IPSD Scholarships are eligible to stay in an on-campus dormitory free of charge.
(3) Off-campus apartments are usually furnished and many are available for rent within walking distance from the CJCU campus. The rents range from NT$5,000 to 9,000 per month (not including utilities).

Q2: | May I work in Taiwan? |
A2: | Foreign students who want to work in Taiwan must hold a valid work permit. A work permit can be applied for after you are enrolled in the university. Based on the Employment Services Act, foreigners who work without a valid work permit will be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 (US$1,000~5,000), and may result in visa suspension. Students with a work permit may work a maximum of 20 hours per week with an hourly wage of NT$176 ( around US$5.87). |
Q3: | Should I have a saving account in Taiwan? How do I open a saving account? |
A3: |
(1) Yes, you must have a saving account in Taiwan, because payments of scholarships or insurance reimbursements are remitted to your account directly.
(2) The Post Office is more convenient to open a savings account because its minimum deposit for a new account is only NT$100. Once enrolled in CJCU, you may bring your passport, stamp, student ID card, and Alien Resident Certificate to open a saving account at any Post Office branch.

Q4: | What is "Service Assistantship"? Can I apply? |
A4: |
This assistantship is intended to help IPSD students with their living expenses, under the condition that their average grades pass the minimum requirement (60 points). Recipients are also required to perform part-time duties, about 10 hours per week. Students from countries on the United Nation's list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are eligible to apply. Other students not from the LDCs can also apply with a low-income household statement issued by the government of the origin country, proof of disability (National Disabled Identification Card), or other proof of financial hardship. |
