04.30 International Bubble Milk Tea🧋(A Festival Related to Cassava)
Originating in Taiwan, Bubble Tea has gained international popularity and is considered a shining model of Taiwanese culinary culture. Many international students, particularly those from Africa, love to drink winter melon lemon and Bubble Milk Tea. Why?
This might be because the pearls in Bubble Milk Tea are made from tapioca (cassava flour), which is a staple food for African students in their home countries. Therefore, USR took the initiative to alleviate students' homesickness by growing cassava in 2021, even though that year we faced a drought. Luckily, Tapioca/cassava is a drought-resistant crop, so they could thrive and were harvested abundantly. Students organized a Cassava Festival, allowing Taiwanese friends to get to know cassava through various activities and agricultural education. In 2022, they continued cultivation, but faced a rodent infestation, resulting in most of the tapioca being consumed by mice. This year, they planted tapioca once again and used a combination of biochar, organic fertilizer, and liquid fertilizer. Despite encountering another water shortage period, they changed the traditional "irrigation" method to a plant-based watering approach. Some cassava has already sprouted new shoots, demonstrating their vitality. The question remains whether the tapioca plants will once again withstand the drought (or hopefully, rain will come soon). The answer will be revealed through the experience.

Shalun Branch Line P83 Bridge Pier - Marine Waste Art Creation
Following the completion of the P81 and P82 bridge pier murals under the railway bridge by the Department of Fine Art, USR collaborated with the Hiin Studio to create marine waste art.
Each side of the bridge pier conveys a different meaning, primarily promoting the love and protection of our planet and oceans. The trash used on the marine waste wall was collected from beach cleanup activities. One of the four walls was drawn by Mugisha, an IPSD international student.
This production also integrated various IPSD courses and general education courses, allowing students to participate in the beautification process while raising awareness about environmental protection and ocean conservation.
