August 1st, 2022 CJCU Global Cultural Summer Camp- Day 1 – Get to know CJCU and USR Action Plan
2022 CJCU Global Cultural Summer Camp has just started. It has been welcomed by students from partner universities around the world over the years. Every summer, students from ten countries, including Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and Poland, participate and share their diverse cultures. Prof. Liu Pi-Chu, Director of International Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Eco Center, also USR Project co-host, shared about the Green Community Roots and Shoots Action Plan: From Local to Global. Michael Mshana, an IPSD student from Tanzania, was also been invited to share his experiences studying at CJCU and working with the community. Michael mentioned, that by participating in community activities, he can put the knowledge he has learned into practice and gain valuable wisdom that can’t be learned from books. Furthermore, he experiences diversity and learns to see things from different perspectives. Many more advantages you can gain, so let’s actively participate in our community!
September 24, 2022 Together with Ark café, Support Guiren District Agriculture and Food Exhibition
IPSD International students, Sindy & Nickson, promote hand-brewed coffee, and met farmer friends from "Eco-friendly Agriculture Basket".
October 6, 2022 Solar Coffee Workshop
IPSD senior student, Sindy, passes on her coffee knowledge and skills to her juniors from Burundi. She has learned these skills through the USR program in the past few years.
Burundi is rich in coffee. Through the workshop, students can understand more about coffee and promote drinking coffee culture in their home country. The workshop includes how to generate solar power system, the essence of drinking coffee and how to make a good cup of coffee☕️.
October 09, 2022 Roots and Shoots African Drum Debut
The wonderful performance received enthusiasm from Taiwanese friends. International students also can experience the cultural differences in local community activities.
2022 USR EXPO # LIGHT UP officially ended
The 2022 USR Expo (University Social Responsibility Expo) organized by the Ministry of Education came to a successful ending on November 20 at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. CJCU Roots and Shoots Action Plan for Green Community- From Local to International won the "Popular Interaction Award" and "Popular Photography Award" at this expo.

December 3, 2022 CJCU Roots and Shoots Animal Carnival
Animal Carnival is an annual event, cooperately held by JGI, CJCU Roots and Shoots and USR. This year, USR internship students, Sindy and Benica, are responsible for a booth that mainly introduced the gray-faced buzzard, with interactive activities such as coloring and taking photos. Freshmen from Burundi, Zephanie and Mugisha, paint the gray-faced buzzard on cardboard, showing their talent in art while at the same time, promoting environmental education.
December 5, 2022「Plants and Landscape」course - Australian Tea Tree Essential Oil Production
Prof. Liu, the Director of the International Jane Goodall Roots and Shoots Ecological Education Center, led the students and Barclay Memorial Park volunteers to visit the centre and acknowledge its surrounding plants. Furthermore, she briefly introduced the extraction principle and process on extracting the essence from plants.
December 5, 2022 Soil Assessment Workshop
Datan, Wudong, and Shalun (Dawulun) community are mainly are mainly agriculture communities. As soil is fundamental to agriculture, USR invited the TCSA farm to teach and assist IPSD students in doing soil assessment. The assessment included observing soil quality, color, water retention, pH value and conductivity. Also, irrigation water can also be monitored to further understand complementary conditions.
