IPSD international students, Sindi and Nelson, were invited to the high school to share their cultures and Roots and Shoots program. Sindi brought clothes and accessories from her home country and let the students try.
Nelson from Tanzania introduced the Roots and Shoots Program and his experiences joining the program in high school. He encourages the students to be more concerned about what is happening in our surroundings and do real actions.

April 16, 2023 Muslim Culture Sharing
Islam is one of the biggest religions in population in the world. Every year, Muslims celebrate مضان Ramadan, during which the month of Ramadan, they have to fast for the whole month to be closer to God. The fast starts at dawn and ends at sunset.
After receiving so many questions about fasting from Taiwan fellas, the students proposed Iftar Gathering and sharing about the religion.
April 26, 2023 English Picture Book Teaching Experience Sharing
In order to improve the teaching of English green picture books, the USR office invited Kelvin, a third-year student, to share his experience, methods and tips of teaching in Datan Elementary School in the past few years to the new international student teachers this semester. He mentioned that because there are considerable cultural differences between Taiwan and Africa, special attention should be paid when getting along with children, whether it is accent or physical contact. In addition, he also suggested that junior students should draw up a teaching plan in advance. He also reminded them to include English and environmental education when choosing teaching materials. Introducing warm-up activities or singing songs can attract children's attention and concentration, and only then the Roots and Shoots action can be truly implemented.
May 19, 2023 English teaching in Changxing Elementary School
This semester, under the coordination of former Principal Wei of Datan Elementary School, the USR Office and IPSD international students' English green picture book teaching has been carried out at Changxing Elementary School in Rende District. International culture and environmental education have also been introduced and taught in English.
Vincent and Somi from Tanzania both introduced the geographical location of Africa and Tanzania; Nelson used birds to let the children understand the importance of species conservation; Sindi prepared traditional Eswatini costumes for the children to take turns wearing, and embracing difference cultures.
Shalun Branch Line P83 Bridge Pier- Sea Waste Art Creation in Progress
Following the completion of the painting of the P81 and P82 bridge piers under the railway bridge by the Department of Fine Arts students and teachers in 2022, this year CJCU USR collaborated with the Hiin Studio to create sea waste art. Each side of the bridge pier conveys a different meaning, primarily advocating for the protection of the Earth and our oceans. The garbage used on the sea waste wall was collected from beach cleaning activities. One side of the four walls was proposed and painted by IPSD international student Mugisha. This project also incorporated various IPSD and general education courses, allowing students to participate in the creation while raising their awareness of environmental protection and ocean conservation.
May 28, 2023 Zhongzhou River Watch Team joins hands with Yiren Elementary School to clean up the beach
Through the patrolling and protection of the Erren River Watch Volunteer Team, pollution points can be reported immediately, maintaining the ecology of the river and improving the quality of residents' living environment.
This time, the Erren River Development Association invited Dean Hong, the program director of the CJCU River Conservation Center, to lead the IPSD international students to introduce the patrol story and the initial intention of joining the patrol team.
Michael shared: He has joined the river patrol team since freshman. He is now in his fourth year and about to graduate. Over the years, he has learned the skills of water quality monitoring and environmental pollution point reporting.
