Roots & Shoots world without borders
Roots & Shoots world without borders. Environmental action exchange between CJCU's International Program for Sustainable Development and the Roots & Shoots Institute, Malaysia.
A total of 17 instructors and students from CJCU's International program for sustainable development led by Director Huang ChaoHsing spent 7 days in Malaysia for an international culture and environmental protection exchange.
Under the management of the Roots & Shoots institute, Malaysia, on the 3rd of November, the students first stayed in Taman Tugu, the forest park, located in the heart of Malaysia where they participated in cross-national youth Roots & Shoots action exchange.
In the morning the students learned about how Taman Tugu used to be a polluted area filled with garbage before it became a precious forest conservation area, where people now enjoy exercising and walking.
During the afternoon the students held group exchange activities with the Malaysia Roots & Shoots youth, where the students shared the achievements and hardships they experienced while conducting Roots & Shoots actions.
Dr. Horng ChingYi, the Dean of the International College for Practice and Environmental Education, said that the college cooperated with the International Jane Goodall’s Institution, in addition to the International Program for Sustainable Development, the college also established the International Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Eco-center. This exchange with the Malaysian Roots & Shoots is the first step of the Eco-center in becoming a youth Eco-education base in the Asia-pacific region. Meanwhile, it’s another achievement for CJCU's internationalization ambition.
Dr. Huang, the CEO of the International Program for Sustainable Development, points out that by cooperating with the International Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Institution abroad, the students are able to learn about other regions environmental actions and experiences, as well as given an opportunity to share the knowledge they have learned and the results they have achieved from their studies at CJCU to the International youth. By connecting and building friendship across nations and mutually raise awareness of environmental issues, we can work together for the world's environment.
